1.2 - History

299Ko takes its name from the original CMS, **99ko**, one of the very first PHP content management systems that did not require a database to store its content. ![99ko CMS Logo](/datasets/documents/english/introduction/history/37437208.png) [99ko](https://99ko.tuxfamily.org/) was created by **Jon**, and the first version of the CMS dates back to 2010. The author released several versions, each introducing new features while always keeping the **spirit of lightness and simplicity** for the user. Some external contributors, whose names remain listed in the 299Ko source code, also helped: * @author Jonathan Coulet * @author Frédéric Kaplon * @author Florent Fortat The last version of 99ko, version 5.1, was released in July 2021. Max, the developer of 299Ko, had already contributed to this final version alongside Jon. Then, in the summer of 2022, the need to use 99ko while also evolving it led to the creation of a successor to this powerful little CMS, with the agreement of its original developer: 299Ko. **A huge thank you to Jon, without whom none of this would have been possible.**

299Ko originates from the CMS 99ko, one of the first PHP content management systems that did not require a database for content storage.

Several contributors participated in its development:

The last official version, 99ko 5.1, was released in July 2021, with the involvement of Max, the current developer of 299Ko.

In 2022, Max decided to evolve 99ko while respecting its core principles, with Jon's approval. This marked the birth of 299Ko, a modern and extensible version of the original CMS.

A heartfelt thank you to Jon for his essential contribution, without which this project would not have come to life.
